Anton's Seafoods complements wholesale with Fish Market outlet

One of Auckland’s longest-standing seafood wholesalers has just opened its first purpose built wholesale outlet.

Anton’s Seafoods will continue wholesaling fresh and frozen seafood to restaurants, takeaways and caterers, but now complements this with a wholesale outlet at the Auckland Fish Market, which sells bulk fresh and frozen seafood as well as a range of finger foods.

A wide range of frozen seafood is available in one, five and ten kilogram packs, including scallops, mussels, prawns (whole and peeled) and shrimps. What is more, Anton’s is unusual in that it is also wholesales bulk packs of fresh filleted and whole fish. A good selection is available, including Cardinal fillets (skinless), Trevally fillets (skin on), skinned and boned Snapper and Tarakihi, whole Snapper, whole squid and whole Flounder.

Anton’s Wholesale Manager Ken Newdick says the stores primary aim is to provide a quick and convenient way for the trade to buy a range of seafood items or to quickly stock up should they need product urgently.

Anton’s was established by the late Tony Barbarich in the 1970s. He who started out wholesaling freshly caught fish to fish shop owners. Since then the business, which is now run by his son Milan, has grown to have five trawlers and an Auckland-based processing factory.

Anton’s brings to seven the number of outlets at the Auckland Fish Market, which also houses the Seafood School. Auckland Fish Market Manager Nigel Thomas says this latest addition to the market’s offering further cements it as Auckland’s top seafood centre: “the market is Auckland’s most innovative and exciting way for trade and consumers to buy New Zealand’s most extensive range of seafood and other food products”.
